Ruo Shui Censer — Twin Lion-Ear Gui Censer with Chi-Dragons
"The highest good is like water." — Tao Te Ching, ch. 8
Chi are the dragons of water. They circle the belly of this censer in raised relief, their lines rising and falling like waves; two lion ears hold the current still. The body is a gui form — flared mouth, swelling belly, ring foot — in the tradition of late-Ming and early-Qing archaistic censers from Dehua, where the gui shape, the lion-head ear and the applied chi-dragon each took root four centuries ago. Here they meet in one vessel.
Made at the Chen Family Porcelain Studio in Dehua, Fujian, under the supervision of Chen Gong. Each piece is cast from a mold, then trimmed and finished by hand, with careful attention to the dragon relief and lion ears, then glazed, fired and inspected. Subtle variations reflect the finishing and firing of each piece.
6.5 × 5.7 × 3.5 in · 16.4 × 14.4 × 9 cm — length (across the lion ears) × width × height, measured by hand on a sample at the widest points; mold-cast and hand-finished, with slight variations between pieces · Dehua white porcelain, antique-style glaze · unnumbered; base stamped with the Chen Gong seal and the XIANSU brand seal.
For incense sticks and incense cakes (with the supplied fire-resistant pad).
Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface; never leave burning incense unattended. Avoid sudden changes in temperature; wipe clean with a dry, soft cloth.
