Between clay and fire
In Dehua, Fujian, Taiping Gong Kiln traces its history to the Taiping Xingguo years of the Northern Song. Its hillside structure guides heat upwards. XIANSU's Taiping Gong Kiln series offers a different firing choice for our porcelain forms.
A firing watched together
A long wood firing depends on a team tending fuel, heat and atmosphere. CCTV's Dehua programme describes seven or eight experienced kiln workers watching a firing continuously for approximately three days and nights. Continuous supervision is a team effort.
Firing is followed by natural cooling, unloading and individual inspection. A three-day firing is not a three-day delivery promise. Kiln scheduling, production and delivery timing are confirmed when you inquire.
The additional firing cost
As described by the XIANSU studio, large-scale wood firing requires fuel and sustained labour, and not every fired piece passes selection. The Taiping Gong Kiln firing option adds US$250 to standard versions; for the first ten Jin Mao Hou pieces personally made by Chen Liling, the premium is US$300. Please inquire about personalized, unpriced or unreleased pieces.
Jin Mao Hou's electric-kiln and Taiping Gong Kiln versions share one total edition of 99, including no. 00 retained by the house. The firing option does not create an additional edition.
