Longshui, Yongchun · Twentieth generation
A family’s craft. Many hands. One continuing story.
Guo Zhihuang is the twentieth-generation inheritor of the Guo family’s lacquer-basket craft. In his work, woven bamboo becomes a surface for lacquer, painting and narrative: an everyday form made with the care of an artwork.
In 2012, he returned to Longshui to develop the craft with local makers. His practice joins making with teaching, helping the knowledge of experienced artisans continue through new hands.
