A ritual can begin with a small pause.
- Make a little space. Choose a stable, ventilated place away from drafts, flammable objects, children and pets.
- Prepare a suitable burner. Use a heat-resistant incense burner on a non-combustible surface. Follow the incense’s instructions. Do not burn incense directly in acrylic cases, paper boxes, or their lids unless the specific component is expressly labelled for heat resistance.
- Light the incense. Allow the flame to take, then gently extinguish the flame so the incense smoulders. Stay nearby throughout.
- Return to the moment. Set down your phone, open a book, or simply pause. Before leaving, fully extinguish the incense and allow ash and the burner to cool.
Gui Xin was named for this return: a few quiet minutes, made your own.
